"Figures with Lanterns and a Bridge" is a beautiful impressionist downloadable cross stitch design developed from the painting Figures with Lanterns and a Bridge, created in 1894 by Scottish artist Edward Atkinson Hornel during his visit to Japan in 1893-1894. It features a common Japanese motif, the arched bridge, which was also used by Monet and Whistler in their paintings. Even before his visit to Japan, his paintings contained characteristics of Japanese art, in particular, his interest in surface decorations. Figures with Lanterns and a Bridge resides at the Hunterian Art Gallery at the University of Glasgow.
