Cats, Red and White Cross Stitch Pattern - Franz Marc

This fine-art downloadable cross stitch design was developed from a painting by German artist Franz Marc in 1912. Marc was a key figure in the German Expressionist movement, and his paintings revolved mostly around animals in their natural settings such as sleeping, grooming, etc. Marc used primary colors in his cat paintings, with each color having a special meaning . . . blue expressed masculinity and spirituality, yellow represented feminine happiness and red symbolized violence. This painting is considered one of the most beautiful of his cat series. Marc joined the German army at the outbreak of World War I in 1914 and was killed in the Battle of Verdun at age 36. The Nazis thought his paintings were “degenerate,” so they were not exhibited until after World War II.
