This very beautiful downloadable cross stitch design was developed from the painting, Carrying the Scrolls of the Law, done by British Artist Simeon Solomon in 1867. Solomon was raised as an Orthodox Jew and grew up in the Jewish community in London’s East End. He was very familiar with the Jewish rituals and this painting was very personal for him. Here Solomon portrays a young man, in a moment of spiritual sanctity, lovingly holding the Torah. He named the painting Carrying the Scrolls of the Law. This painting resides at The Whitworth Art Gallery, University of Manchester.
