This advanced fine-art cross stitch design, Impression, Sunrise, was developed from a painting created in 1872 by the well-known French artist, Claude Monet, who was regarded as the founder and leader of the Impressionist group of artists. It is a painting of a harbor (port of Le Havre in north-western France) at dawn in which Monet expressed his own impression of the red sun cutting through the misty atmosphere. This painting is considered the quintessential symbol of the Impressionist Movement, and this is where the term "Impressionist" originated. It is considered Monet's single most famous painting. It resides at the Musée Marmottan in Paris, France.
